Intuitively, Marica Schaafhausen collected plants and flowers over three decades. They were stored away, left to their own devices, and created their own resonance space by opening up a different perspective on things when viewed. Flame-like structures, floating spirits, porous landscapes, delicate organisms that present themselves in their own unique way. They appear powerful and monumental, yet fragile at the same time. They are bearers of knowledge, repositories of memory, and sources of inspiration all at once.
From a deeply rooted knowledge that has been given to humans and plants by nature, a will to survive grows in order to grow and adapt, to get back up, to unfold, and finally to take root. The tableaus pick up on parallels between humans and plants, such as adaptability, resilience, and the will to exist.
Everyone perceives the deformations and posture of the plant differently. The enlargements invite exploration and recognition. Whether ghosts, fairy-tale forests, landscapes, organisms, or sexuality – the works evoke very different perceptions, associations, and points of reference. Touching the senses and giving new impulses to thoughts is at the core of the work “Resonance Spaces.”
